Aprons
I grew up watching the women around me wearing aprons. Aprons from plain
to checks to floral . Fancy ones, lacey ones and some pretty well worn
ones. Many were made from feed sacks.
Today not very many wear aprons as then. Modern conviences have made life
less messy.
Of course the quickest way to see one is eat out at a restaurant. Or at a
friends BarBQ where the "chef" lol has a special one.
My favorite memory of aprons is not my mother but my dad! Papa had a
special apron that hung in his work shop for the really greasy jobs. But,
he also had one that hung on the kitchen wall. You see every Sunday for
years papa fixed breakfast for everyone who was hanging out or in the
house. There was a big platter of eggs, cooked and seasoned just perfect
and fresh OJ and toast baked in the oven to a perfect crispy brown. and
of course hot coffee for all. Papa continued this tradition until he could
no longer stand at the stove.
For years I hung onto those two aprons. I was asked several times why
because they were old and full of worn spots. So, I had this brain storm.
I took the plain white one and made ruffles and sewed on the blue jean one
. I then took pieces from Papa's shirt, moms dresses, my kids favorites ,
all saved for quilting projects, and sewed small patches all over.
It was the hit of many a church social when I worked in the kitchen.
And a
few family getherings. Each
patch had a story of it's own.
