The first appearance of Betty Boop was in the 6th Talkartoon
starring Bimbo, entitled "Dizzy Dishes" (1930.).
Grim Natwick was the first animator to draw Betty.
She was not named yet
In 1934, Betty began appearing in comic strips drawn by Bud Counihan
She began with the features similar to a doggy and graduated to a full
lady keeping the curly hair and inheriting a garter on her leg instead of
a collar.
 |
Her first cartoons series lasted
from 1934-1939.
With her round wide
eyes
and her pouty mouth, she
boop-oop-a-dooped
her way into many
hearts . |
Her real revival came about during the late 60's and early 70's, when
her cartoons began to appear in late night showings at college town
theaters.
Bimbo was relegated to the role of her companion. He didn't seem to mind,
even when she stopped being a dog and became human.
Pudgy was her best friend. He was a small white spotted puppy.
I dedicate this Love to quilt pass page to my late sister Shirley
who loved Betty and shared her charismatic personality and Outspoken ways.
